I have social anxiety so it is extremely hard for me to be able to talk to people. i’m 20 years old and i’ve never had a job because i’m scared of interacting with others or making a fool out of myself. i just decided that i really want to get over my fear and get a job. i got scheduled for an interview, which i was going to go today, but i decided to push the day back for tomorrow and i’m worried that i’m going to keep pushing the day even further and just never go to it. i really want to get a job and earn money but i don’t know why my anxiety keeps preventing me from it. what are some tips to get over my fear and just get the interview done with? how long do interviews usually last and how should i dress for it? the job is for an assistant a dog grooming salon. they just need someone to bathe, feed and walk the dogs. Please help!! any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Job Interviews can be quite intimidating for anyone, let alone for someone with anxiety. I would not try and change the date but I would be honest and tell them that thee interview process makes you very nervous. If the job is one involving customer service it might be wise to re think your application. Job interviews are not always a good indication of how well you can do the job. Ring in advance and see if you can speak to the person who will be interviewing you and explain this to them. Good Luck.
Listen you gotta face your anxiety. You have to work someday you know so just face it and make it better if you can't fix it at once life is unfair but you gotta deal with it.
I was 19 when I went to my first interview and I was nervous as well, but if you read books with sample questions you'll get an idea of what you could be asked. I also got my first job at 19 and I thought I was a late bloomer. If you prepare your answers and pray to God, you'll be fine. Before I go to interviews my mum and I pray to God, which is worth a try.
believe me, i would also be super nervous heading to interviews. a couple times i have vomited before going. but, with every time i would actually get to the location, meet the people, and get going, I am always fine and back to my self. more than anything its the anxiety and unknown that is what makes people nervous and scared. but when you go through the motions, you'll find it's nothing to be afraid of.
interviews can last 30 minutes or longer. i think maybe an hour is the longest i've had one. meeting with multiple people, walking around the building, etc. but that was only one or two times that happened. it's hard to say, as each one is different.
when you do go, leave early. look ahead at how traffic usually is and give yourself enough time. if you get there 30 minutes early, hang out in your car and listen to music until it's around 15 min before than walk in.
Going through the same thing except I'm almost 23. It's to the point where I need to do something. I feel really guilty having my parents pay for everything and I can't keep putting it off. I'm curruntly looking for a kennel tech job. Good luck on your interview!
Sounds like a good job for you. A neat polo and khaki pants would be fine. Don't keep pushing it back. Work through in your head what you what to say at the interview. You probably will be asked how much experience you have handling dogs and they may want to see you interact with one or two. That should be easy if you've been around dogs for awhile. It won't be nearly as painful as you might think.
Think about it this way - what's the worst thing that can happen? You don't get the job. You don't have one now, so are no worse off. And you won't make a fool of yourself But even if you did, so what? You'd never see that person again. Interview could last 10 or 15 minutes, more likely a little longer. Wear nice pants and shirt. good luck.
Don't push it back again.. they will think you aren't interested. For a groomer position you don't need to dress up.. just wear a decent pair of pant's & an nice top.. probably even jeans & a shirt would work honestly. I've had interviews last 15 minutes & one lasted 5 hours. I doubt yours will last more than an hour, but the longer the better in my opinion. Just talk like you would talk to a friend, respect, listen to them & answer honestly. Make sure they know that you love animals. Have a question ready for them when they ask.. You could ask them how many dogs they groom each month for example, How long have they been in business etc. Don't ask about salary! That's a huge no no. They won't tell your or discuss normally unless they offer you the job. They will ask about your availabilty, tell them you can start right away & tell them any hours/days will work. People who refuse to work weekends won't get this job I can tell you for sure. Good luck!! Edit: At the end ask them when they plan to make a decision. That way you won't be stressing if you don't hear back right away.
I advise you to ask an actual question, if you are to continue using this site. Put it in the proper place, too.
You're not going to be hired if you change your interview date again.
Do some practice interviews with family or friends, first.
