I’m going to try and get into final fantasy, is there anything I need to know before hand?
What I’m going to do is play up to final fantasy 12, because after that it seems to go downhill, but besides that, anything else I got to know before I get into the series?
Every Final Fantasy game with a different number is a completely separate world with no relation to the other games. More than that, each Final Fantasy game uses radically different mechanics, play style and graphics.
Example: Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy VII are in no way related. Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, on the other hand, is related to Final Fantasy VII (a prequel in this case.)
Generally speaking most fans will tell you that different games are the "best" depending on when they got into the series. The most commonly mention games, however, are VI, VII, and X.
Final Fantasy I through III and X are purely turn-based.
Final Fantasy IV through IX are modified turn-based systems where it either takes the character real time to prepare to do their actions, or that different actions take different lengths of time to do.
Final Fantasy XII is essentially real-time, you can give your AI companions action priorities (and you will have to, they do nothing on their own) or pause the game a *LOT* to give individual commands.
Final Fantasy XI and XIV are MMOs, and hence are real-time all the time.
Final Fantasy XIII through XIII-3 are technically turn-based, but the turns are so short it might as well be real-time.
XV is real-time, but can be set to pause when are doing something to give you a chance to think.
That most games in th series are totally seperatr from each other, and that its NOT a continuing story.
A few games have sequels, but the core numbered games are all completely seperate, set on entirely different worlds (with one or two exceptions) and no narrative links between them.
So it doesn't actually matter what order you play them in, or even that you play all of them.
