I am German and we use the ü Umlaut a lot so when I'm typing a longer text on an English keyboard I just switch the input language to German. For this you have to install German in your system manager under regional settings and enable the language bar which gives you a little blue box next to the clock - click into it and you not only get easy access to ü but also to ä, ö, à etc ;-)
Other than that - I'm sure there's a key combination you can enter, but I forgot how to look that up, sorry
