My co worker has a dell inspiron 1440 and it doesn't have a Numlock function key on the keyboard. How is he able to type special characters like music notes, Ñ, etc?
Update:his dell inspiron 1440 doesn't have those blue letters.. and when he does the Fn + Alt key and the numbers.. doesn't work.. he finds the character map a hassle because he has to look for that certain symbol instead of typing it on his laptop

TIP: For spanish you can also need these:
á <alt>+160
é <alt>+130
í <alt>+161
ó <alt>+162
ú <alt>+162
¿ <alt>+0191
There are little blue numbers on certain keys instead of a numpad. He presses the Fn key and the Alt key and whatever combinations of numpad keys he needs.
Its simple you have a character map installed in the every set of windows in START -> ACCESSORIES -> SYSTEM TOOL -> CHARACTER MAP ...... you can get a hold to what ever symbol you wanna get hold off...... click on the image you wanna use copy paste and use......
