I started bathing my dog outside in the summer time and found not being enclosed and have other distractions kept her calmer for longer. I started with just water and went slowly, doing a little bit more each time. I kept it short, just a few minutes, then treated her, praised her and took her for a nice walk. Each day I was bath her legs as part of our routine. Then went up to the belly, the back and left the head till last.
buy a dog muzzle from the vet/pet shop/ebay. This should do the trick. I used to wash my dog in the bath with warm water. If it is cold water I don't blame him for biting. Dogs probably only need a bath once a month.
you can safely give your dog one Benadryl I wouldn't give your dog any other kind of tranquilizer or sleep aid without prescription of a vet remember that they do make muzzles an anti bite collars. Put the muzzle on your dog and give him a bath and that way it can't bite you

Dogs that are tranquilized are actually MORE likely to bite because they loose inhibitions.
Any "sleeping pills" you can obtain OTC are not safe for dogs anyways.
