the actual problem looks like the sqroot sign but the little dip is an x and on top is 1 and then 100,000 on the inside if that makes any sense?

Note that 1/100,000 = (1/10)^5 = 10^(-5). Hence..
log_x 10^(-5) = -5
-5log(10)/log(x) = -5
log(10)/log(x) = 1
log(10) = log(x)
x = 10
