As a kid I was told if you work hard you’ll get it. Go to college and you’ll get a good job. That’s a bold face lie. Success is chances aligning up at the right place and time. It’s Nepotism and who you know. Talked to a Navy recruiter the other day who is about to become a literal rocket scienctist. Told him he was lucky, he said no it’s not luck. Well of course he said that because he can’t see the nepotism that helped him

No one in America will ever get rich by selling their labor. Not unless they are in the entertainment/sports industry. Otherwise it's luck, a little bit of talent, and who you know or who your parents know.
You can't believe that Trump has gotten where he is now by "hard work and bootstrapping"
You're acting like they carefully weigh the situation and try to be fair and rational when coming to conclusions. THEY'RE BABY BOOMERS. Expect nothing from them, do nothing for them and be happier.
I have a young male friend who graduated from Community College with an Associate's degree in HVAC. He was hired immediately at $18.50/hr with plentiful time-and-a-half overtime. He currently is paid $28.00/hr, still with plentiful time-and-a-half overtime. He is in hog heaven, as we say around here.
I have read that there are some 7,000,000 jobs going chronically unfilled for people who can "fix things". Overland truckers can earn over $100,000/year as a high school dropout.
With an attitude like that, no wonder you aren't making it! You aren't guaranteed anything by going to college. Success in life is all about seeking out the opportunities and doing what is necessary to take advantage of them. It's NOT about sitting around and whining about nepotism and why life isn't fair.
Edit:
Wow! Looking at the other answers here is truly sad! All the self-entitled kids who expect opportunities to just fall into their laps.
Working hard only gets you more work. And I learned the hard way....lol
Its all bs.
All you have to do is look at slaves and their descendants. Who historically has worked harder than any other group of Americans.
And where did this hard work of building America lead to?🤔
Winners and losers are chosen. I was always the hardworking loyal step up employee and never got promoted. Dirtbags who were friends or family of those ups top always did tho
