Firstly (1950's & early 60's) popularity of the government, reduction in corruption and a real improvement in peoples lives. This was the case in the early years. Also a sense of having won true independence at last from puppet governments and US run businesses.
Later Soviet aid kept the country going though there was (and still is) a huge respect for Castro - but many people think they would like a change in government
Now it is probably a lack of real choice. Elections occur but the choices are not real. There is also a degree of coercion - vote for us dont complain or protest or else...........
Certainly a lot of people would like to leave Cuba, but probably economic reasons more than anything else.
As a tourist I have visited the country - they did not appear to be short of toilet paper and I did not sleep with a young girl - or indeed anyone else, though I would plead guilty to carrying some extra weight.
Cuba is far from perfect and many Cubans may prefer a change (no one has taken a real survey) but a sudden change from communism will hurt a lot of people who will end up a lot worse off.
They called the early years of his rule ''the golden time'' The old USSR was subsidizing Cuba the Cubans felt very powerful standing up to the envied Yankees But after the pull out of the Russians everything went to hell The 1st responder has no idea what in the hell he is talking about Their heath care is crap They flew in doctors and equipment to care for the old fart from Spain but this pinhead well tell you they wanted to save the rally good doctors for the people This country is short on toilet paper This country once said ''ho we have no aids in Cuba'' Sure they at one time put anyone who had aides in jail
It is against the law to own a boat or be on a boat without permission The Cubans can not eat lobsters as these are for the tourist
The only reason the Brits euros or cannucks go to Cuba is to do teenage girls for the price of a pair of shoes They hang out every night outside hotel hoping to meet a bald pot bellied Brit euro or cannuck You well see yong kids with dark and red cicles around their eyes with blacked teeth nothing has been painted in 30 years I was picked up in 40 year old Chevy the driver wired the door closed It's a toilet over there
I personally think Fidel Castro is a great politician and a winning revolutionist. That's why he ruled Cuba for 44 years. Unlike the Hong Kong fascist ruler, Donald Tsang Yum-kuen, a lair, a money grabber, a catholic freak, a passing buck specialist, an evil man in Hong Kong history, a bad man employed his dictatorial power to grasp the power by getting money advantages for himself and his subordinates of good for nothing officials and civil servants and public funded professionals, and his conflict of interest of HK billions are delivered to his relatives. Every day, Hong Kong peoples want him to step down and he is very unwillingly to do so.
I once watched a TV program in Canada while visiting a few friends. The TV program with question and response between the asker from the media directly to the voters in Cuba of why they trusted the great Fidel Castro. They answered promptly. During the non Castro era, we watched the displayed TV and washing machine inside the shop, but never afford to own it. Fidel Castro making life is much easier than before. Why Hong Kong Donald Tsang that unpopular and is predicted to be step down in the near future?
The overall overpaid civil servants and his officials have pulled up the staggering inflation of daily necessities and affected almost every walk of life, except those riches. There are two millions out of the total seven millions are living under the poverty line. The Eucine Yoon of CNN video showed there are 200,000 citizens are living in cages in HK. I bet no one lives in cage in either Cuba or the US. Many sane scholars and good economists have sought that the incompetent Hong Kong government must start to cut back on civic services by axing at least 20,000 civil servants, cut at least 6% to 60% of those above-described overall overpaid governmental related personnel, depending how much each individual is overpaid in comparison to the international standards of similar nature of work. Many scholars point out Hong Kong civic and top government peoples are making 120% to 600% as what the US professionals making by doing the exact same jobs.
I think the following selected article has provided the detailed answer about why Castro last that long in ruling Cuba.
