In alternate history I suppose, could the Aztecs have been able to have driven Hernán Cortés and the Spanish away and have been able to have held their own from being conquered? Could they have possibly defeated the Spanish?

Not really. The diseases that the Europeans brought with them couldn't have been countered at all.
The diseases were insurmountable, even when Natives fought and won against modern weapons , using better tactics and fighting skills.
To create a comparable example , take the Black Deaths effects on Europe and keep increasing it's effects by adding more diseases with the same death rates. After a hundred years most cultures and populations were ground down to almost nothing.
On top of that add armies that are immune to many of the diseases, and attacking and torturing the populations at the same time.
The tens of millions of deaths in the New World , caused by disease and War have no comparison anywhere in any other parts of the worlds history. For hundreds of years the populations remained lower than Pre-columbian times.
Realistically, no. Even if they somehow managed to defeat the technologically superior Spanish armies, another european power would have come along for all that tasty Aztec chocolate.
Well, yeah, maybe some gold too.
No.
Stone age weapons, and armour and shields made from animal skins and feathers had no chance against steel weapons, armour, and firepower.
As soon as the Spanish decided they were prepared to use unlimited violence, the Aztecs were doomed.
Yes ,easily. But they had too many enemies who were only too willing to help the Spaniards against them.
