It depends on each store. But those vegetables are not so expensive. You can buy it at several hundred yen or lower.
If you goes to go the suburb area, you can get those staff much cheaper, though!
Fruits are expensive because Japan is a clouded country and has smaller lands for fruits.
Grapefruit is from California, and it costs $1~1.25.
Veges are relatively cheaper than fruits, but everything is expensive compared to the price in the US.
If you compare the price in Japan and Switzerland or the Nordic countries, it is almost the same or sometimes cheaper in Japan.
If you eat the fruits or Veges in season, I think you can get it cheaper, too.
It depends on the store(and its location) and season.
As a sample, I show you a prices.
carrots(*3) 198 yen
lettuce(*1) 298 yen
apples(*1) 178 yen
onion(*1) 58 yen
mikan(*7) 498 yen - season!
eggs(L-size*10) 198 yen
milk(1liter) 158 yen
This is the price I saw today at the nearest supermarket. This store is expensive a little, but has many kinds of food.
mikan is on-season, in another store which I think inexpensive, a sack of mikan is 398 yen. I can't find grapes. (Grapefruits imported from the US 98yen) Grape's season is autumn, I think it cost 350yen(Delaware*2bunch).
lawsons, 7/11s, family marts, and other convinience stores sell onigiri(rice balls) in many different flavors for about 105 yen(1.05$) each. they come in flavors like tuna mayonayse, plum, meat, samon, and much more. they also sell drinks that can range anywhere from 87 yen(87cents) for a apple/orange juice, to 500 yen(5$) for a starbucks cofee. they also sell cakes, miniature lunch boxes, premade sandwiches, candies, meat buns, hotdogs and more for relatively cheap prices. if you dont want to do that every day,(i wouldnt), then some cheap resturaunts are sushi-go-rounds, which serve palates of sushi on platters that are moved around the room on conveyor belts. it can be quite rewarding, with many choices for as little as a dolar a plate. the average person spends less than 10$. they also have many mcdonalds, KFCs, and other fast food resturaunts. jonatans are availabe in some areas, with the average dish around 6$. for traditional foods, the prices can be any where between 9-30$ a meal. crab is particularly expensive, as is beef. i reccomend you try yakiniku. for an expensive delicasy, try shabu shabu. it is where you cook thin slices of beef/delicious vegitables in boiling water for a few seconds before dipping in a delicious sauce and consuming. it can cost up to 200$ for a couple. ---enjoy your time in japan dont forget to try new foods! ---fruit punch samurai
All fruits are fruit and vegetables. A "vegetable" is a plant, any part of which is employed for food.
It really depends on the store. Almost anything is expensive in Japan. In your case your wondering about foods. It depends on the food. for instance, as for fruit it can cost over $6 easily for grapes, peaches, etc. melons can cost from like $7~ over $550! It really depends on the company and what time of the year you're buying it. And remember, the amount of foods in Japan are NOTHING like in America. They're usually all really small portions compared to America.
I remember paying $20 USD for a cantaloupe once and $60 for a pizza.
Most vegetables and fruit is VERY expensive in Japan.
