At what point in your life did you start calling your parents (and similar-aged relatives) 您 instead of 你? Do you find it awkward to suddenly start referring to your parents that way?
I know that there might be families who always referred to older relatives and parents as 您, but this question is for the rest of you.

It is very rare to refer to parents as nin these days, it is considered very formal. It is more often, however, to use nin when we greet seniors outside of the family, or to talk to professors or seniors at work in a professional conversation. Hope that makes sense.
I don't exactly know, but I think you can always refer to your parents that way.
