Hi! I am planning to be an au pair in Sopron, Hungary, in the summer of 2014. I am a university student studying music, and I need to take music lessons over the summer, even though I am working. I have spoken with my employers, and they are supportive of me making the 90 minute trip to the Wien Conservatory once a week for a private lesson. I am now in Austria, and have bought a Sommerticket, which lets me go anywhere in Austria without paying for each ticket. I know the Sommerticket works within Austria, but I don't know if there is an ÖBB ticket that will let me go to Wien from just over the border. The ticket one way between Sopron and Wien is €14,70. If possible, I would like to avoid paying that much every week just to get to Wien. Does a Vorteilscard/Sommerticket work in any ÖBB station, or is there something else I can get to let me go over the border more cheaply?

If you have a valid ticket in Austria, you have to pay only for the short ride from Sopron Station to the border point (like 2 km). It's also possible they accept your Austrian ticket already in Sopron as the train to Vienna is an OBB service and the train has no more stops within Hungary. Just ask any OBB personal, while on your first trip to Sopron.
