It's one way to do it. Studios are one-room apartments. Bedroom, kitchen and living area are all the same area. If you can handle the small space, it's a decent way to avoid roommates.
Yes, when I was younger I rented a large studio apartment, the utitlies are generally included and it was far better than sharing my space, with someone that may or may not pay their share.
If you want to save money then I suggest either you live with family, or have roommates.
Currently I live with family, and I lived with other people as well, so I had roommates, and those people were not my family. I was able to save money when I had roommates, and I am able to save money while I am living with a family member. Currently I have around 22 thousand dollars.
It wouldn't be much cheaper than a one bedroom flat, what you're talking about is basically a flat/apartment without a bedroom, so you still have a kitchen, bathroom and a lounge that is also used as a bedroom. It would cost more than a house share whereby you just have one room.

If big enough yes.
yes, but what matters most is how much per month the apartment costs, vs what you make.

If you can't afford a one or two bedroom, sure.
Not a whole lot cheaper but a little. And tiny.
