Faith. Grace. Rhythm. Talent. Yes I think you've either got it or you don't. That being said however, everyone is good at something. Creative talent may be specific: some people have a natural ability to draw, while others struggle to do stick people. Even if they practice incessantly, even if they try to develop their skill, some people would never become great artists. They may become mediocre with a great deal of effort. The same goes for any creative talent. Some people can pick up an instrument & play it instantly. Others struggle & just can't get it. Some people are great athletes, others (like me for instance) can't play any sport well. We are all different. The key is to find what you're good at, what interests you & then throw yourself into that. Don't try to be something you're not. Just be what you are. Live up to your potential.

There is an "it" factor. Something that sets certain people apart. A dynamic energy. A sense of genius.

Watch "Amadeus." A classic. The perfect film to illustrate the difference between true talent or genius and mediocre skill. Mozart is a genius. Born to create music. He has a divine gift. Salieri (who is insanely jealous of him) struggles as a composer, no matter how hard he works. He will only ever be mediocre. He can not be a genius like Mozart. It comes so effortlessly to Mozart. Salieri resents him.

We each have our limitations. The key is to live up to your full potential, whatever it may be. To enjoy being who you are & not compare yourself to anyone else.

I paint, write songs, sing & play guitar. I may never be Van Gogh. I may not be Sarah Mclachlan. But I enjoy being creative. I have talents & I enjoy using them. I may not be a genius but I enjoy creating art & music & sharing it with others. I'm terrible at sports & cooking, but I have no interest in them so that really doesn't bother me. I leave athletics & culinary talents to others.

I too believe that the basic inner potential of two persons is about the same. However, that is when you have added up all types of potential. If one person is better in maths, the other is better in arts. If one is better technically, the other may be better administratively or managerially. Therefore, the difference does come up in a particular field of activity. When they say you do not have it, the only correct interpretation would be as relevant to the particular activity - not in general. Those who get the opportunity of the right fit end up at a higher level than those struggling with misfit efforts. If we can work 'hard' as well as work 'right', there is no reason why we would prove to be any inferior to another. There are no pre-set boundaries or limitations to human potential in general.

Years ago, when I was in college I worked in a resturant. There was this mentally handicapped guy that worked in the dishwashing area. He couldn't hold much of a convrsation but he did his job to the best of his abilities and he stuck to it. As a result he had worked there for more than ten years, made more money than about half the staff and was very proud of himself (rightfully so).

The point is that while not all of us can be president of a major corporation or bring home the gold medals from the olympics, we can all acheive if we want too. It takes hard work and dedication to be good at what you do but we all have a skill or talent we can use.

I make cardbord boxes for a living. Prior too tnat I worded as a Navy Nuke. Same occupation that Jimmy Carter had while he was in the navy... accept he was a sewer tube sailor and I sailed on the USS Abraham Lincoln.

We pretty much had the same upbringing. (complicated) We had identical educations. (complicated) He went on too become a US President. I moved on too make cardoard boxes in Australia.

You are a combination of three things in your life.

You are what you start with. Your genetics.

You are what your world presents too you as you grow on from your genetics. Circumstance.

You are what luck grants you. Luck... Look up the word luck on www.dictionary.com.

There are no natural boundaries set for you. Each day we should strive to reach our full potential. The example of Mary Magdalene comes to mind. Although she "struggled for heaven" (Jesus), she was the first to see the risen Christ. While the other disciples disputed her authority they soon realized that the savior had made her worthy. She was the first totally self-realized Christian. Can't do better than that.

Absolutely not. Look at Rachel Ray, she is making a career out of setting cooking back 100 years. I hate to quote a pop star but John Lennon said: you can syndicate any boat you row. So if you can be at least mediocre get a good publicist.

as long as the intellectual ability is there, i think everyone has the opportunity to be successful..depending on how hard they are willing to strive for it...of course there are some with mental disabilities...and others may seem to have better "luck" by being in the right place at the right time...or knowing someone that can give them a boost...but in general, i think we create our own destinies or our own "it" factor as you say..

Yes and no. Depends what we're talking about. If I wanted to I can learn to play guitar and be a rockstar but if I wanted to become president of the US there's no way in hell that would ever happen.
