Faith is a fruit of God's spirit, and God gladly gives his spirit to those who seek it. (Gal 5:22; Luke 11:13) When we make a sincere effort to study God's Word he will give us his spirit which will help us to gain and understanding of his word. As our understanding increases then our faith is strengthen when we act on God's promises and then sees the evidence of God's blessing on what he has done. So, yes we must have faith to gain and understanding of God's word. (Hebrews 11:6) Faith is not a possession of all people. (2 Thessalonians 3:2) The righteous or just person will live faith. (Gal 3:11)
Sometimes a sinful person or even an atheist gets a vision or understanding of God, and that person didnt even believe in God..
So in other words THE WILL OF GOD, whatever God wants will happen.. and u should have faith, why not ? u r alive, better than lots of other people.. he has helped u so much, even if u don't know it.. So have faith in HIM :D

It depends on how you define the word "understand."
If you define "understand" as fully embracing "God's Word" and accepting as factual the source of that "Word," then my answer is "No. To do that requires faith in the existence of God."
If, however, you define "understand" as recognizing what the message is without acknowledging any validity, then my answer is "Yes. I can understand the messages of the Bhagavad-Gita, the Upanishads, the Book of Mormon, the Qur'an, etc., without claiming to believe the validity of the message."
Have you ever told someone that you understand what they are saying but that you still don't agree with it? I have.
The mystery's of faith an GOD are beyond human comprehension.
Faith concerns questions which cannot be settled by evidence
Life without GOD is like an un- sharpened pencil it has no point..
You can't see the wind, but you know it is there because you can see what the wind is doing. You can know that the wind is there because you can feel it.GOD is like the wind, you can't see him.
I think so. The KJV reads at about a 6th grade level. You can understand something and reject it. You need faith to come to God and to follow Jesus but I do not think you need faith to understand God's word.
[Rom 5:8 KJV] 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
without faith, or without the holy spirit to guide us unto all truth, generally speaking no atheist has the authority to teach what the bible says. it is written that the scriptures are of no private or indidividual intepretation. this excludes all atheists are truth teachers.
that said it does take faith and obedience and covnersion to be born again in the spirit. and hence it takes faith to be able to follow the guidance of the holy ghost and comforter. if one does not have faith, one cannot follow Him and learn. if one has anti-faith propaganda and propagates lies, they no longer teach the truths of the word of God, nor do they have inspiration from God, nor will they believe in personal revelation. revelation is the key to the science of theology. without revelation, even the most pious christians will find themselves off due north, especially if their compass is only set off by one degree.
You can certainly understand the character, without having faith. However, you cannot believe the character is real without having faith. Take Aesop's Fables for example; you can understand the principles the fables teach without believing ants can actually talk to grasshoppers.
No. I suppose its difficult to only believe in the parts of the bible which are most conventient, and then trick your way around the verses which are metaphor and which are literal if you don't have faith.

No.
Faith is inspired by God, to us so that we could accept or refuse it as we might wish.
This makes the Holy Spirit an important vehicle for us to reach the kingdom of heaven.
