Fear...we had nothing to fear but fear itself. We were afraid that the Japanese-Americans would owe their allegiance to the homeland, to Japan. In fact there were very few Japanese-Americans who turned traitor. Most supported their adopted country, the US, admirably.

I believe it's because we were at war with Japan during WW2.
The President was a Democrat
Japan had just bombed Pearl Harbor.
We had nothing like a network in place to screen people.
Most of them moved in Japanese-American circles.
There was just no way of vetting anyone.
AND...it was for a short time.
Keep in mind, the entire world was at war.
Not just us and not just Japan.
Because they were a threat to America.
Because that was the good ol' days that cons want us to return to.
