As an answer (I’m not an American), that D of I was written at a time when belief in God was almost globally accepted by the vast majority of people. There would have been nothing strange nor offensive in such phrases, and people at the time would have understood them perfectly well. It’s only modern people who seem to trip up over such phrases, due to a growing prejudice against God as Creator.
Those are the terms that DEISTS use to describe a god-creature. Note: the words christ, bible, jesus or christianity NEVER appear anywhere in the US Constitution, Bill of Rights, Articles of Confederation or the Declaration of Independence - the 4 most critical founding documents of the US.
