Is this on an auction site? If so, the chances are that the £1 is the starting price, but by the time the auction ends they will be sold for a lot more - and possibly more than they would get otherwise.
It is quite common for car dealers to put some of their used car stock on ebay, and it is also common for ebay sellers to use very low starting prices in order to get interest in whatever they are selling, knowing that the chances of it selling that cheaply are very low.
I highly doubt they're selling a car for a pound. Probably some gimmick to get you in the door.
Well, then there's what the other person said. If it's on an auction, it's probably the starting price. I'm sure that they have a reserve amount on that.
They're not. It's a sales gimmick to get more people into the showrooms where the salesman will politely explain that "Oh, I'm sorry but THAT car has been sold, But since you're here I can show you THIS car..."

I see Craigslist ads for $1. you have to put something in the price box. the price will be in the body of the ad, or it will be a "call for price".
