Actually, the chain stores in town like D&R and Remzi carry a wide range of English-language books. Check out www.dr.com.tr or www.remzi.com.tr for locations (or just shop online). They're all over town.
I would actually advise against Greenhouse, as they're only open during the day, as well as the fact that it's the centre of Christian missionary activity in Istanbul. The free English lessons they give revolve around Bible stories, often to the effect of "Jesus walked--ed, past tense" and the place seems to have creepy connections to Fethullah Gulen. The owner kept trying to push Today's Zaman on me and their Religion section primarily consists of his books.
There are two areas to look at. One is the bookseller's market at Beyazit;
this is mind-bogglingly chaotic, particularly the second-hand shops, and
mainly good for Turkish-language material. The other is in the
Pera/Beyoglu area from the Tunel to Taksim Square; there are a few places
here that sell foreign-language books, and one small shop in a square near
the Tunel has the only second-hand shop in town that sells English and
French language stuff (the square it's in will make any cat lover go all
wobbly, there are dozens of lovely fluffy moggies outside). There are also
bookshops attached to publishers all over the city (though predominantly in
Sultanahmet as that's where the publishers themselves congregate).
Why? Greenhouse is serving up prices to put others to shame.
They're having their annual blow-out sale on every single book written in English in the entire store. They've organized tables of books for 1YTL, 2YTL, 3YTL & 4-5YTL for all ages and categories. Even better, you'll find all the other books left from 20-60% off except special orders. Yes, 60%!!

Greenhouse does sell good cheesecake, though.
