I kind of have a similar question. The fact that one has to ask the question points to the problem - I for example own a Volkswagen, it is great vehicle but it speaks in symbols. And if you try to look the symbol up in the manual, well, even the mechanics are unable to find it. It is just to much work to take it to a German translator when the need for transportation is NOW! I say that there should be law to require manufactures to use standardized symbols. Example, I was driving my car and was terrified when I flashing red sign popped us that read: STOP NOW!!!! (engine oil pressure was low - serious big time engine damage) - but, the next time something similar happened it was a different symbol - that could interpreted either way: Ok to drive the car. In fact it a rough landscape is good for engine performance on occasion. Or, it could be intereted STOP NOW, the previous signal.
Wonder why they do this? You would think they would know that Americans are pressed for time and need standardized consistent symbols. Debating if I should try Toyota, next time. I like the foreign cars because they are very SAFE.
