I'm doing a written report for an experiment and I'm using these 2 formulas: q = m x C x ΔT and q = ml.
1) Q = m (grams) x C (J g-1 deg-1 ) x ΔT (oC)
Q = 50 x 4.2 x 75
= 15,750 J
2) Q = m (grams) x L (J/g)
Q = 50 x 2260
= 113,000
I just want to understand the difference between these equations and why the answer came out different.
Update:Is it better if I just don't use the second formula in my written report and just use the first formula alone?
