The confusion is in the acronym. Please Email My Dad A Shark (or PEMDAS, or BIMDAS, or BOMDAS) implies that multiplication goes before division. This is not true. Multiplication and division go left-to-right just like addition and subtraction. For example, 5-3+2=4. If you think 5-3+2=0 or 6/2*3=1, then you must have learned the acronym without paying attention to the lesson.
