I like how you want it to be "Sickeningly Cute." It's like you want to make him embarassed or something, lol. I'd go with the big balloon thing for Valentines day: http://www.homeseasons.com/Valentine-s-Day-Decorat... Birthday, make a homemade dinner or cake and decorate it. He'd appreciate that.
I would say anything stuffed, especially the huge stuffed bears with silly romantic sayings like you see on the shelves of drugstores and Walmart. Even better than the stuffed toys are the stuffed ones that sing & dance too! I was at Target today and they had a small dancing dog that played sang "I Got You Babe".
The giant cards another person mentioned are great, but even better are the cards that play music when you open then up. I've seen several that play love songs or even valentine themed songs.
Whatever you end up giving him though, I'd still add a personal touch to it. The gift itself may be sickeningly cute, but the sentiment inside would be romantic. For instance, if you get the cuddly bear, tuck a note inside listing the things about him and your relationship that you love the most. Guys may act like they don't like the mush, but everyone loves to be told that they're loved.
Another (sickeningly) cute I like is one that you can make yourself! Create your own 'Prescription for Love' by taking an old pill container and fill it with Valentine heart-shaped conversation candies or small love notes or love coupons). Create a label on your computer that contains the instructions like 'Take twice daily with a kiss'. http://www.romancestuck.com/holidays/february/vale...
What I'm doing for my boyfriend is I writing about 20 lovey-dovey quotes on 20 different sheets of notebook paper and I folded them into origami hearts and put them all in a box. It takes a lot of time, but I think it's really cute!
teddy bear holding a giant heart with one of those cheesy sayings on them. pharmacies or places like walmart have a ton of them to choose from. they're not that expensive. and to go with it, one of those GIANT 2 feet tall cards. i once did this for a boy when i was 16. the giant card made it funny and added on to the 'cuteness'.
