What does it mean for everyday life that “10 Corporations Control Almost Everything You Buy”?
What does it mean for everyday life that “10 Corporations Control Almost Everything You Buy,” and that just 6 corporations control 90 % of the media in the U.S.?
It means that when the US can no longer maintain the level of profit the corporations expect, we're dead meat. My concern is with the dozen or so multinational corporations that control US food production from field to market.
Monsanto, Syngenta, Bayer, Dow and DuPont control what we eat in terms of the crops grown. Coca-Cola, ConAgra, General Mills, Kellogg, Kraft and M&M Mars now own most of the U.S. organic food industry. Add Nestle (world's largest food processor), Cargill, Archer Daniels Midland and Unilever and you've just named the companies that control the world's food production.
It's one thing to not be able to buy a towel or a pair of shoes. It's another thing to find the grocery store shelves near-empty and food being rationed because the multinationals can sell for more profit in other countries.
What is it with corporations today? I try to buy from the independent grocer, athletic store, etc. as much as possible. I like the service and will pay a higher price for it.
