What does √i^2 equal?
I asked my math teacher why he said it was -1 and he said "because I said so". I like math a lot, but I want to know how everything works to understand it completely. If I don't have a good understanding, it's hard for me to solve problems. Please someone help me understand. I know i^2 is -1 but how is √i^2 also equal to -1?

i^2=-1 but the square root cancels out the squared part which just leaves you with i. So your teacher is wrong. have fun correcting her :)
