I applied for an apartment & got approved. I’ve been working at my newer job a month now but at the time I applied, I was only working there for two weeks which I had put on my application. So the apartment lady called and told me I could bring my deposit and that we have to do employment verification. Now to remind you, my job does not have a direct number. Everything is self-serviced to keep us from calling them directly. So in order to verify my employment you have to use the WorkNumber and give an employment code which is a third party company who gives you proof of employment or both proof of employment and proof of income. Now the lady is ask if I have eight check stubs which pissed me off because I told her and even wrote on the application that I’ve been at my job for two weeks which is now a month and now she acts as if she doesn’t want to use the WorkNumber because you have to pay for the information and now it’s been three days & she has my deposit & I have heard nothing back and when I call no one answers. My next step is to get my damn deposit & find another place or should I just be patient because I think three days is patient enough when you have MY money.

You should have asked your direct supervisor for a reachable phone number, and explained that you are apartment hunting and you will need to use them as a job reference, so that they can verify your employment and ask any questions that they may have. Don't be blaming the new apartment people. You are to blame for failing to do what is required of you - providing a "contact" with a "working phone number".
Did you leave a different job when you went to this one?
Why can you not call your employer directly and why do they make it difficult to contact them anyway???
You get your deposit back immediately. No way does she have the right to use your money to enrich her pocket without you receiving any service in exchange. In the future, never give your money to anyone without there being a written exchange of services purchased and promised. "Just in case"? No way.
Your job sounds sketchy. In her shoes, I'd not accept whatever this runaround is.
WorkNumber is a well known employment verification process.
The person performing the verification process should not be charged for this expense. Talk to your employer about why the person is being charged and if they really are, how you can pay on their behalf.
If your deposit is a holding fee, you are not entitled to get the money back.
