Canada - Cape Columbia, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut (83°08' N, 74°13'W) is very close to claiming the northernmost point in the world. It's latitude is only 38 miles south of Kaffeklubben Island, Greenland and 478 miles from the North Pole.
Russia - Cape Fligely, Franz Josef Land, Nenets Autonomous Okrug ( 81°50′35″N, 59°14′22″E) is the northernmost point of Eurasia.

It's either the northern tip of Ellesmere Island, which is part of Canada, or the northern tip of Greenland, which belongs to Denmark. However, to be technical, it would have to be Canada, because Greenland is not part of Denmark, just a possession. As for the South Pole, not counting Antarctica which belongs to several countries, it would have to be Chile, which has land south of Tiera del Fuego in Argentina.

the closest land mass is Kaffeklubben Island which is part of Greenland, a state owned by Denmark. it is only 707km away from the north pole!
