According to the Wall Street Journal:
August 23, 2008 2:58 a.m.
The Republicans have been gathering ammunition against Sen. Biden for weeks now and didn't have to look very far. Early in the lengthy presidential primary season, while he was still a candidate himself, Sen. Biden criticized Sen. Obama's inexperience on several occasions, as well as his foreign policy naiveté.
The idea of nominating someone without "unimpeachable credentials on national security and foreign policy," Sen. Biden said during a radio interview in August 2007, would be "a tragic mistake."
"There has been no harsher critic of Barack Obama's lack of experience than Joe Biden," said McCain spokesman Ben Porritt. "Biden has denounced Barack Obama's poor foreign policy judgment and has strongly argued in his own words what Americans are quickly realizing -- that Barack Obama is not ready to be President."

Yes, however, it doesn't make the democrats look like they are united or confident that they have a substantial candidate. That's pretty bad! I had a feeling he was going to choose Mr. Biden, or rather, the democrats powers that be were going to choose Biden.
You mean, was it correct at the time? Sure it was correct. Biden was running against Obama then, and Obama was surging. You have to attack him in those circumstances. It doesn't make much sense to hold back for the sake of a VP opportunity that may never come.
The questionable, possibly "incorrect" tactic here was the Obama camp picking as running mate a guy who:
1) repeatedly slammed Obama's inexperience, on camera;
2) made a racially undertoned crask about Obama, on camera; and
3) has said he would be proud to run as VP with John McCain, again, on camera.
All those statements are going to be on McCain attack ads in the next couple of months. That's a lot of cannon fodder right there and it may outweigh the foreign policy cred Biden brings.
Biden, when out there running for himself, can say what he wants. You have to wonder who's doing the thinking in the Obama camp when they turn around around and pick a harsh critic of their own man. This was a very odd choice IMHO.
Like I said before get ready for those ads. The Obama Campaign handed McCain's campaign with an inexperienced plot to run with. It's really sad when your own VP choice thinks your inexperienced
McCain doesn't have the slightest clue about foreign politics.
Iran training Al-Qaeda? Iranians are followers of the Shia Islam and Al-Qaeda is a hard core Sunni Muslims. They actually hate each other.
If you don't know how stupid such an allegation was... It's almost the same thing like saying that Americans train North Koreans.
Absolutely
Obama just dug his own political grave by choosing Biden, incidentally who voted for the Iraq war and has been a Washington insider for 35 yrs. Doesnt go too well with his message of "fresh politics" and "change"
I do not think it was too much of a big deal considering Obama picked Joe Biden to be his running mate!
Does it really matter?
Biden fills in all the gaps and holes obama has left behind in the track.
So clearly, this is an unstopable ticket.
Makes for a strange choice I would say.
yes
