I don’t understand how this works; I have been taking pain meds for some time. I have been lucky enough that it seems for the most part my tolerance is low so it is still effective. However someday it seems that the meds do nothing at all, it’s like I didn’t take anything at all but then the next day and many more after that the meds work fine. My question is what is causing this strange and sporadic immunity to my medication?

I have those days too. I generally take vicodin for pain and flexeril for muscle pain but sometimes it just doesn't work. I do not take it every day, but as needed and usually at night to sleep better. Sometimes in the day I take some aleve and that helps. If you take pain meds everyday, you will build up a tolerance and with some people an addiction. This is why it is good to save the pain meds for days you really really need them. Even though I have been taking vicodin for over a year, I am not addicted to it. As needed is the way to take them. Not everyday.
The body becomes resistant to pain medication. So as times goes by you keep having to take more and more pain medication to treat the same pain. Then starts what is called an addiction. Are you actually treating the pain or are you feeding the chemical dependency?
Your immune system is not wanting to work at times, Or maybe you need a stronger medication
