Since the public pins blame for gov’t shutdown squarely on Republicans, why do Repubs persist with extortion?

Funding government is a process of funding already passed legislation. The demand by US Richclass Republicans that already passed legislation be renegotiated in order to fund it is an illicit act. Shall we momentarily feign to pretend that I am not stupid?

Americans in the United States always need a monopoly to hate, because hatred is the only thing that gives them any unity. If Americans didn't have a monopoly to hate, or a county to invade to give them a sense of mission.
Reality would hit them all very hard in the face how economically, politically, socially and culturally screwed up and underdeveloped the United States really is, as a society and nation. That's why Americans always need something or someone to hate, blame and point fingers at. Not educationally realizing when they are pointing their finger, that three fingers are always pointing right back at them.

Add details: Why do we need 800,000 gubmint jobs if they are deemed "non-essential"? How many gardeners does Obama really need? Can't his kids mow the lawn and do yardwork, like in non-privileged families? What you really want, is a slave class to your master class. That's why you want everyone to pay tribute to wealthy insurance execs, even if they never seek medical treatment because they can't afford to take the time off work.
They have no consequences to pay. The long term goal of repubs it to destroy the government... it has been for years. Their purse holders in corporate America do not want any government intervention in the way of regulation (basically the final result of every department from Agriculture to Labor and agencies from FDA to OSHA) which forces them to act safely and responsibly..............................................................................
Due to gerrymandering, their districts are safely theirs no matter what they do as long as they toe the party line. Nationally they were outvoted by millions of votes but were unaffected overall since all these votes were piled up in districts designed by them. ................................................................

I have an idea that maybe their goal now is merely to do as much damage to the country as possible until they lose the House.
That way they may look more favorable in 2016.
