I have to be honest. I am head of a family of 4 and one of our kids has special needs and our rent is high because of the location we live which we don’t want to move from because we get amenities through local school district. So getting stimulus of course it helps us.
But do we NEED it for survival? No we do not. Many lower income earners also have kids with special needs, they don’t pay the expenses we pay, it’s not the country’s responsibility to undue my tight budget when we are choosing to live in a municipality that we are not required to live in.
The priority for Covid stimulus as a country should be geared to those who cannot put food on the table, cannot obtain a roof over their heads at any location within commuting distance of where they work, to balance the budget , and whose full time incomes are less than food, rent, utilities, transportation, With support that the same shortfall did not exist before COVID or would not have existed now if not for COVID, evidenced by their past annual increases in salary.
If we limit eligibility to these persons plus healthcare workers, plus state and municipal public basic services, and essential small businesses,
With the same Govt disbursements allotted, we can provide higher stimulus payments to the segment of the population that really is directly hit hard, and for the rest of us who are just complaining 2020 was miserable, too bad.

Sad thing is many do not need it while others do but because they made some special amount they will not get as much or get anything at all.
There is a difference between stimulus and relief. Stimulus is intended for people to spend in order to revive the economy so it goes to everyone. Relief is intended to aid people experiencing hardship.
If you can't show the loss you should not get the stimulus.
I'm with you. My wife and I both have jobs that really haven't been impacted by covid. If they said it only goes to people who have been affected, I would be fine with that in theory.
The problem becomes how you measure that. Of the government is giving millions to Pakistani gender studies, and people who chose not to get a job are getting a check, then I want a check too.
Agreed.
But then you have to set up a whole bureaucracy with rules about how is eligible and how to do they claim it, etc.
