Tonight I removed the factory CD player and installed a new stereo deck in a 2000 Mazda Protegé. The original deck needed to be removed with a 'din removal tool' (or four awkwardly held screwdrivers) -- near as I could tell it wasn't secured by any harness or anything else. The new stereo fit snugly in the spot except for that I can't 'lock it into place.' Is it fine to sit like that, or what do I need to do?

The radio that you purchased should have came with a metal cage. On that cage there are metal tabs, that you can bend down and upward to secure the cage from moving. Then slide the deck into that cage and it should lock into place.
