I used to be a "republican" many years ago. However, the hijacking is what drove me to jump ship. They are losing their grip fairly quickly. My parents are hard core CONs, but even they are waning from their party.
I'm a Constitutionally based conservative & a card carrying member of our Libertarian party, & have been for MANY moons now. The GOP has not 'hijacked' OUR values at all. The GOP AND DNC are *ONE* entity/party & have been sense at least 1988, as the below links more than illustrate...
The GOP has not been a conservative party for a loooong time now. Short of Ron Paul & Michele Bachmann, the GOP is about devoid of any conservatism & conservative candidates. Most conservatives are now either independent or have joined our Libertarian party or our Constitution party.
The GOP is now supported only be Big Money evangelism, neocons & special interest groups. Remember, in the last prez election that many folks thought senator McCain was as much or MORE liberal than senator Obama!
If the repubs 'hijacked' Constitutionally based conservatism from us Constitutionally based conservatives we'd be supporting em BIG TIME! Tragically, that will not happen as the DNC/GOP whorehouse of debauchery has run it's course! Below are the links to our Constitution party & our Libertarian party if interested...
I have been a registered Conservative for 40 years which is why I most definitely would have voted for Alan Keyes over either Obama or McCain'
McCain was the lesser of two evils. I hope you are not suggesting that any rational person should have supported the inexperienced, ultra-liberal, socialist Obama ?
If so, if you haven't learned your lesson by now, you will learn it shortly.
simple; the values aren't necessary being hijacked, there are just enough people with these values who don't care enough to be part of the system and enough people who are convinced by the GOP's current ideas to keep them the way they are.

The GOP manipulates the religious right the way the dems manipulate the minorities and unions. Political fodder is all they are.
They don't hijack or reflect my values because they like the dems are special interest slugs.
I'm a conservative and the GOP has nothing to do with me. Why did you let Marxists hijack the Democratic party?
No one hijacked my values.
If you don't like the policies of a party, you simply leave.
Why did you vote Democrat when the far left has taken over the Democratic party?
