So Wright made some inflammatory and controversial statements? Who cares? The question is how you would characterize the 20 years of Wright's sermons. Most of them are available and are online and extremely boring. It is a lie to say that they are full of Wright saying 'God Damn America'. Now, if you take a look at what Wright said, it is true: the Bible does say that God Damns people who kill innocent people. Wright did not say America should be damned unconditionally. He was calling attention to the treatment of blacks over the years, and that America should be damned for that, just as, to draw a comparison you would understand, she should be 'Damned' for killing the American Indians. For the second point, it is simply not true that Wright said that the US brought on the 9/11 attacks with it's own terrorism. He said that when the US engages in terrorism 'it never bats an eye' - which is true. And that in fact we helped create Bin Laden, and now the chickens have come home to roost - which is also true. Chalmers Johnston made the same point in a couple of books. But Falwell and other white pastors did in fact blame 9-11 on the 'gays and communists'. Now why is ok for a white pastor to make these claims (and Falwell, as well as Hagee and Artis have all been friends with the New McCain) an not a black one? It is not. If we are fair to both candidates, we don't blame them for the crazy things their pastor (or a pastor which they say they support) says. I should add that both McCain and Obama renounced their respective pastors (Hagee and Artis were not McCain's pastor but just good friends). So, to conclude, it is likely that Obama had attended a lot of boring sermons with Wright, but eventually got fed up with him when he heard the latest rounds of clips. The fact that that is *all* that the conservatives have on Wright indicates that most of his sermons were rather boring. But even though Obama got fed up with Wright, most of what Wright said was in fact true, but just controversial, or similar to what white pastors say.
