The USA should have had a National Health Service 50 years ago. Obama is trying, the first step is the opt-in health insurance plan.
72% of Americans support his plan. The GOP can scream and cry about the "poor" insurance companies suffering because of the competition but that is the American way, until they face real competition.
How can we claim to be the richest country in the worlds when we are at the bottom of the list in effectiveness of our current system.
High infant mortality rate
Lower life expectancy
47 million uninsured.
Available to all-no rejections for pre existing conditions or dumped due to cost.
I'm in healthcare myself, and you'll get a lot of comments on this, all out of ignorance.
Because Obama has NO healthcare system yet, or even has yet to propose a full plan. Congress is working on it - the debate seems to be public option vs. no public option, but most of the other details are all totally in the air.
What I AM happy about is that someone is actually thinking on this and working on it, Cause the system we have now is incredibly inefficient, incredibly wasteful, and leaves a lot of people out in the cold.
What I don't like is that Obama is not being firm enough about the public option. Without that option there will be little reason for the insurance companies to act any differently and we will be in practically the same situation that we are now and costs will not be lower.
How can you ask this question? We don't have any details other than Republicans screaming "Socialism" every thirty seconds.
Why don't we (the people) have a civilized discussion first, then weigh the options on the table before we splatter one another with moronic "opinions" provided by the likes of Limbaugh (who's got great insurance, so screw you) and O'Reilly (also, great insurance)?
Or maybe instead we can sit and do nothing and drown by paying the private insurance companies trillions of dollars for doing nothing. Because insurance companies are in the business of collecting premiumsm not paying claims.
I haven't seen enough detail to know whether or not I would support this particular plan. I didn't see any of the broadcast last night. Its early in the process. I do want to see a reasonable public option that will be affordable for more people.
"it has never worked in any other country it was attempted in"... REALLY? Don't tell western Europe, Scandanavia, or Japan. Hahahahaha. Stop drinking the Insurance Lobby kool aid.
A. Cost. According to the kennedy plan which has been the only one they released so far, The non partisan CBO has said it will cost 1.5 trillion and only cover 1/3 of the people that according to congres sdont have insurance.
B. Government has shown that it does not manage anything well, much less medical programs like SSI, or Medicade.
C. It will still be a draw on our system by the illegals who continue to pour in.
D. It will open a can of worms that will lead to the pushing off of private healthcare providers due to the fact that people will not want to pay 2x for health care. obama stated yesterday that he would be FOR a tax increase to pay for it. so why pay for private and public insurance will be the mind set of people, which will force the government to put a cap on how much medical providers can charge for certain care, which will also push good doctors out of the industry.
And do you really think the government is not going to force doctors to only charge a specific amount? orr...oh that's right, that's fascism again...Obamas isint a Facisit right??? Obama doesn'tt want to run health care, just as he doesn't want to run the car companies, so hell just assign another czar right? so TECHNICALLY HE wont be...
so then where does that put the private sector, or does that force the private sector to Fold, thus creating a gov monoply eventually, which of course is above the rules cause its the Gov...since private sector will always be undercut by gov at the start
Then how Does it still stay an option? Isint an "Option" a choice?"
Espically when 72% of people are happy with the care they recieve now?
it's just another socialist scam from obama and his buddies ...
Obama claims that for $1.2 trillion of additional Federal spending, all those without health care insurance will be insured. However, these people are already receiving medical care. Spending trillions of additional dollars in order to pretend that people are being cared for is irresponsible and illogical...
...The White House has apparently been hiding the fact that for an additional $12 trillion debt only about 16 million people, of supposedly about 47 million without heath insurance, will be covered by the end of 10 years. Even if that were true, that is $75,000 per person covered — a tremendous escalation in health care spending.

Some competition will be good for the consumer.

too much spending , too much debt ...

that's what i don't like about it ...
I like that it isn't based on the irrational conservative faith in markets.
The fact that the government is taking over an entire industry. This is the same organization that:
1) Has bankrupted social security
2) Has bankrupted medicaid
3) Has bankrupted medicare
4) Can't balance the budget.
So what makes you think that they can do any better with healthcare?
