I have everything but the correct potentiometer with on / off switch.I have a device that uses two D size batteries. It has a regular on / off switch but I want to exchange the switch that's there now with a potentiometer that not only increases / decreases power but turns the device on & off. I have a 500k potentiometer from radio shake but it's too much or big for the task I need the correct size "potentiometer with on / off power switch built as one component that'll replace the original power switch.Any ideas on the correct size & where to get it?Thank youRich. Digikey.com or newark.com they have everything you need. Do you know the resistance of your circuit? You would need that as a starting point. A household dimmer switch sounds like what you would need, just don't get one that uses a triac and not a rheostat.
