Just what kind of "medical experience" do you think you will get in the Army? If you are not graduating with a degree in nursing or some other medical field that you can actually work in then you are not going to get any medical experience in the Army. If your degree is just a basic college course you will get commissioned as a line officer and will be doing things like infantry, tanks, artillery, etc. No medical.

You are a student taking ROTC. The first 2 years do not require any commitment. Only scholarship cadets will receive uniforms. Depending on the school, they may wear the uniforms to all classes, or just once in a while. Scholarship cadets are required to maintain a level of physical fitness. Regular students are not. You can ASK the ROTC detachment if you can do some of the physical training on a voluntary basis. They will usually agree because this is a chance to work with you and maybe get you to try for a scholarship or even just contract for the last 2 years.

The first year is pretty much nothing. Some history and very basic knowledge. The 2nd year focuses on some basic skills which will include map reading and first aid. ROTC may sponsor a CPR certification or encourage students to get CPR certified. That is about the extent of military / medical training.

3rd year is drill and ceremonies (marching), physical conditioning, leadership, learning about the different branches, and preparing you for the summer training.

4th year is more leadership, learning about officer positions, and choosing your branch choices.

2 years of ROTC as a regular student will not teach you any discipline. You would get more discipline participating on a sports team. Doing 2 years of ROTC, dropping out, then joining the military (for 4 years) after graduation is pretty stupid. Do the full 4 years of ROTC, have a 3 year obligation (4 if on scholarship) and go in as an officer.

if you are in Army ROTC you will be an Army officer. very very rarely do they allow for cross commissions.

you will NOT be doing anything 'medical' as an ROTC graduate with a commission. you will be a Line officer: Infantry, etc. if you enlist after college because you dropped ROTC your Junior year, only your ASVAB line scores dictate what you will be doing. that, and needs of the branch you enlist in.

anyone can do the first 2 years of ROTC. you must be a contracted cadet in order to do the last 2 and get a commission. if you are not contracted, you are just a student taking ROTC as an elective( usually classified as a PE credit IIRC) contracted means you are accepting money from the military; either through scholarship or through a stipend ( most are on stipend, not scholarship. the stipend kicks in as a Junior when you commit to becoming an officer) there are 2, 3 and 4 year scholarships.

there are a few ROTC instructors on here, but IIRC you wear the uniform only on days when you have ROTC class. I may be wrong on that however. it may only apply to contracted cadets.
