Perhaps the JWs would argue that such a change in teaching was based on "Jehovah giving new light" to the men who instruct the writing committee. After all, it is purely a matter of interpreting bits of the Bible and not research into historical facts. If we assume the writing committee only uses material that is accurate and truthful, then we could check this out by looking at a subject that DOES require historical facts, obtained from sources used by the writing committee.

I suggest people examine what claims are made in the JW Trinity brochure. One section quotes from historic sources as to how some early Church Fathers agreed with the JWs in denying that Jesus was God. But our first problem with the writing committee is that they failed to provide sufficient details about their sources for readers to check. They also included a lot of elipses [...] between words quoted. Those dots show that a bit of the quote has been missed out. To check the truthfulness and accuracy of the writing committee's quotes, we need to check the original sources.

Fortunately, some scholars have done that and, would you believe, the writing committee has totally distorted some of those quotes to make some of the early Church Fathers appear to support JW teachings, when they do not! All sincere JWs need to check the link below, for then they will discover that their writing committee has deliberately maligned and misrepresented historic sources in their desperate attempt to make their anti-Trinitarianism appear to be a Christian stance.

Yes these are and were and will continue to be bold lies told in order to maintain control over the weak minded rank and file members. The JW'S that have answered here are perfect examples of how mind control has taken over their thinking, which totally blinds them from actual facts both historical and scriptural. Their new light theology is just a deliberate deceptive tool to revamp old failed doctrines and allows them free license to keep changing their doctrines as they see fit. It is nothing more than a shell game where the truth is conveniently hidden from the rank and file members. The rank and file members are repeatedly told they "must trust" the GB for their spiritual food, and yet the food is spoiled and has zero spiritual nutrition, and some food is so bad that the GB has even pulled some of it off their own shelves. And yes, the GB will have to answer for their wicked deeds.

Annsan is quite correct to say the statement in the 2001 Yearbook came out before the Trinity booklet was published. 5 million copies of this pernicious booklet were published in 1989.

There is abundant evidence to prove that their Writing Department consistently publish partial quotes, inaccurate quotes and quotes that are deliberately misleading. In fact, there were so many inaccuracies in their booklet "Should You Believe The Trinity?" it has been taken out out of circulation. Here are a couple of examples of how the Writing Department (some of whom are part of the faithful and discrete slave class) continue to publish material that is inaccurate and how they constantly change what they used to believe:

In 1981, the organisation was refuting objectors' claims that the FDS refers to only a few leading members of the anointed: Watchtower 1 March 1981 pp 24-5: “The objectors may argue that not all of Christ’s anointed disciples have a share in preparing the spiritual food, so perhaps the “slave” pictures only the LEADING ONES and the domestics those they serve in the congregation. There is no point trying to force an interpretation of the parable. Self deception is of no benefit and is spiritually damaging.”

Today, the organisation is teaching exactly what it accused the 1981 objectors of being self-deceived: Watchtower 15 July 2013 p 22: “Who, then, is the faithful and discreet slave? That slave is a SMALL GROUP of anointed brothers who are directly involved in preparing and dispensing spiritual food during Christ’s presence. Throughout the last days, the anointed brothers who make up the faithful and discreet slave have served together at headquarters. In recent decades, that slave has been closely identified with the GOVERNING BODY of Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

Here is a highly significant quote from the 15 July 2013 Watchtower: "In the past, we thought that the great tribulation began in 1914 when World War 1 started. We thought that Jehovah 'cut short' those days in 1918 when the war ended so that the remaining anointed ones on earth could preach the good news to all nations. Then we realised that a part of Jesus' prophecy about the last days has two fulfilments. So we needed to change the way we understood some parts of the prophecy."

How amazing! In spite of claiming to be Jehovah’s sole channel of communication since 1919 and in spite of claiming that they alone can provide spiritual food for all the “domestics” through their “faithful and discrete slave” class, they have been getting it wrong. With hindsight, they have looked back and come to the conclusion they need to change the way they understood things. Does this “new light” come from Jehovah God? If so, why does Jehovah God keep giving them wrong information? But perhaps more “new light” will be unveiled in the fullness of time, to make everything crystal clear. The JW religion like most other religions is a joke and their ministers only care about controlling people. If their priest told them that they had to eat excrement to go to heaven they probably would. Ergo, they don't notice the mistakes and discrepancies because they have either been brain-washed or they don't have enough intellect.
