WHAT JESUS SAID
“For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds. Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.“ (Matthew 16: 27, 28)
Now i think those people he was refering to are LONG DEAD

Yep, he said in many places in the Bible he'd return within a "generation" while his followers were still alive. Liar? or just deluded? (Or both.)
Quoting M. Paulkovich, from No Meek Messiah p. 216,
"Jesus convinced his followers that the world would end very soon—within "a generation." Thus, after the thorny-crowned martyr, King of the Jews was supposedly crucified (something history has not recorded), the apostles went straight back their temple (as claimed in Lk 24:52-53), continually "praising and blessing God," waiting, expecting, believing the world would soon end, and their Lord would return—any day. Any day now, they thought. Any day. Soon, soon, for sure…
Like Elvis, Godot, Elijah, and Milli Vanilli, Jesus never came back. Not within a generation, and not before his followers would "taste of death" as promised in Mt 16:28 and Mk 9:1."
Its only a failed prophecy if you interpret it the way you have. Well, the 4 gospels are there to back each other up, so lets look to another gospel on the same reference for clarification.
"In Mark 9 verse 1, Jesus said, 'Assuredly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste of death till they see the Kingdom of God **present with power.**' Now the way that's translated from the Greek I understand, He's saying you are going to see a presentation of the Kingdom coming.
After that statement is the example of what He's talking about. After 6 days, Jesus took Peter, James and John, He led them up on this high mountain apart by themselves, and He was transfigured before them. His clothes became shining exceeding white like snow such as no launder on earth could whiten them and Elijah appeared to them with Moses and they were talking to Jesus.
Now follow this: Jesus was glorified. Moses was there, who represents those who died and are resurrected. Elijah was there, representing those who are translated without seeing death. God the Father comes in a cloud and says, 'This is my Beloved Son.' What they had was a miniature microcosm, a picture of the Second Coming. Jesus said I'm going to give you a snapshot, before you die, of my Kingdom coming. And that's what happened on that mountain right after He made that statement.
That experience, it's called the Mount of Transfiguration experience, was the fulfillment of that. Moses represents the Law, Elijah represents the Prophets, and they were both there to endorse Christ in His Ministry, meaning the Word of God was supporting His Ministry."

Derren- There are several different implied meanings of "generations" in the Bible. You're dumbing it down too much. Look at this verse:
1 Peter 2:9
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
Hes not talking about a length of time from father to son, but a group of people in specific time.
Jesus never existed, the whole story is a lie.
well? not according to LDS theology, john is supposedly still alive, though in translated state, and then there are the 3 nephites from the book of mormon.
