"抱きしめたい" means "I want to hold/hug you(or someone)" for usual expressions.
I think you are partly correct, because a very popular song's title of The Beatles "I want to hold your hand" was translated as "抱きしめたい" dakishimetai into Japanese. However, its literally translation would be "手をにぎりたい" te wo nigiri tai.
I don't know the reason why the translation was changed, but I guess "Dakishimetai" would sound better than "te wo nigiri tai" for the song's title.
I hope it helps :)
For your information, "抱きたい" daki tai means "I want to hug you(or someone)" also it means "I want to make love with you(or someone)" in some situations, but "抱きしめたい" means only "I want to hug you(or someone)".
That was how the Beatles song "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was translated in Japan. However, there's nothing about "hand" in that sentence. Basically it means you want to hug/embrace someone but it also can mean you want to make love to someone.
