Hello, My dear Christians ..
You believe that the Prophets were chosen by God almighty to teach & guide us to His way and to be best examples for us to follow, don't you?
We Muslims also do believe that Prophets are the best examples to follow ..
But I was shocked yesterday when I read the following verses from the Holy Bible that seemed strange;
Genesis 19, verses 33-36,
33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father." 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
36 So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father.
-----------------
I can't imagine ..
We Muslims believe that Lot was a prophet of God ..
-------------------
Now, the question is, according to your churches & believes,
Do you think that Lot was really a prophet of God?
------------------------------------------------------
Note, to those who aren't Christians ..
If you want to participate, you are welcome ..
But without insulting neither our dear Christians nor the Christianity ..
Please ..
Update:dear deadeye,
Is it ok that you find the Prophet of God drunk?
Is alcoholics suitable to be used by the servant Of God?

A prophet is someone who speaks on behalf of God, and can hear the voice of God speaking to them. Traditionally in the old testament, prophets were to warn Israel from straying away from the path of the Lord. Lot is not considered a prophet of the Lord, for we have no record of anything that God said through him, or any of his teachings. Just being in the Bible does not make one a prophet. Your misconception is drawn from the misconception of Muhammad, who did not have the resources you have. All of his education in the Bible was verbal. he didn't learn it in any particular order, and there were serious gaps in both content and his understanding. He transmitted his misconceptions and prejudices when he paraphrased biblical stories in his recital.
Lot was a nephew of Abraham. There is nothing to suggest he was a prophet of God. He was warned to leave Sodom by angels who visited the city, not by the voice of God.
Lot's daughters had just witnessed their city being destroyed, and honestly believed that the same fate had fallen on the rest of the world for its wickedness. They thought they were the last people on earth, and that they needed to become pregnant to continue the human race.
Of course alcohol is suitable for consumption by servants of God. Jesus' first public miracle was to turn water in to wine at the wedding feast of Cana. Jesus used wine in his last supper, which we shall celebrate tomorrow night. Many of Jesus' parables related to vinyards. There is nothing wrong with using alcohol, as long as it's not abused.
I congratulate you on your exploration of the Bible, and encourage you not to become discouraged in your Biblical education. You will find it much easier to understand and to understand the moral lessons and the entire story arc if you dispense with your Islamic prejudices. I tell you that Muhammad's interpretation is flawed, and if you try to fit Judeo-Christian scripture into an Islamic mold, you will fail. Keep an open mind, and place yourself in the context of the story that the Bible so clearly gives you, instead of trying to relate it to an Islam that the Bible never acknowledges. Remember that the Bible precedes Islam by hundreds of years, and there's no evidence for many of the things Islamic teaches in any other place but Islamic scripture.
1) Do Muslims consider Lot a prophet? I don't think I've ever heard Christians or Jews call him a prophet. What did he prophesy?
2) All the prophets sinned. All the prophets were human sinners, and sinned. If you keep reading the Bible, you'll come across a lot of other examples, some arguably much worse. Christians do not consider the prophets impeccable, any more than Jews do. Jesus is the one who never sinned.
3) Lot can hardly be considered culpable in this, in that his daughters got him drunk and raped him. He was not pleased. His daughters did something very wrong.
Christians generally do not believe Lot was a prophet. (Are there any examples of Lot prophesying anything?) The situation with Lot and his daughters is that after Sodom was destroyed, they thought they were the last humans on earth. The daughters wanted to continue the human race, but they knew their father wouldn't go along with the incest, so they had to break him down by getting him drunk. Apparently, by the Bible account, he didn't even know what had happened until much later.
Lot was not considered a prophet in Christianity. He did come from a perverse society it was clear that Sodom had been corrupt his wife (turned into a pillar of salt) and his daughters. And from this vile act (their actions are in no way condone in the Bible) two nations were born. God does speaks clearly about incest and what they did was sin as a result of the debauched society they were in.
Trust me the situation that arose between Lot and his daughters is disturbing a but an obviously important for it to be recorded in God's Holy book.
Lot was a righteous man who pitched his tent toward Sodom. A fine example of how the righteous are vexed by pitching their attention toward the wicked instead of toward our heavenly Father.
Lot, that I know of, is not said to be a prophet in the Bible. He was kin to Abraham who taught him what was right. Though he did not always follow it, apparantly.
Was Lot a prophet of God? Not that I know of. Look at King David, he was surely a prophet of God, and he committed adultery with a man's wife, had him killed to cover it up, etc. All men are wicked in the flesh. So if that is what you are getting at, Lot being wicked did not prevent him from being a prophet.
There are numerous examples of incest in the Bible. The most commonly thought-of examples are the sons/daughters of Adam and Eve (Genesis 4), Abraham marrying his half-sister Sarah (Genesis 20:12), Lot and his daughters (Genesis 19), Moses’ father Amram who married his aunt Jochebed (Exodus 6:20), and David’s son Amnon with his half-sister Tamar (2 Samuel 13). It is important to note, however, that in two of the above instances (Tamar and Lot) one of the parties involved was an unwilling participant in the incest.
It is important to distinguish between incestuous relationships prior to God commanding against them (Leviticus 18:6-18), and incest that occurred after God’s commands had been revealed. Until God commanded against it, it was not incest. It was just marrying a close relative. It is undeniable that God allowed incest in the early centuries of humanity. If Adam and Eve were indeed the only two human beings God created, their sons and daughters would have had no other choice but to marry and reproduce with their siblings and close relatives. The second generation would have had to marry their cousins, just as after the flood the grandchildren of Noah would have had to intermarry amongst their cousins. The reason incest is so strongly discouraged in the world today is the understanding that reproduction between closely related individuals has a much higher risk of causing genetic abnormalities. In the early days of humanity, though, this was not a risk due to the fact that the human genetic code was relatively free of defects.
It seems, then, that by the time of Moses, the human genetic code had become polluted enough that close intermarriage was no longer safe. So, God commanded against sexual relations with siblings, half-siblings, parents, and aunts/uncles. It was not until many centuries later that humanity discovered the genetic reason that incest is unsafe and unwise. While the idea of incest is disgusting and abhorrent to us today, as it should be, we have to remember why it is sinful, that is, the genetic problems. Since this was not an issue in the early centuries of humanity, what occurred between Adam and Eve’s children, Abraham and Sarah, and Amram and Jochebed, should not be viewed as incest. Again, the key point is that sexual relations between close relatives must be viewed differently pre-Law and post-Law. It did not become “incest” until God commanded against it.
Well Lot did not break the commandments because the commandment against incest were not yet given. Lot was righteous as the bible tells us.
2 Peter 2:7-9, " And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds) The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:"
Christians don't think of Lot as a prophet for one thing. This is the very first time I've ever heard anyone refer to Lot as being a prophet.
No, Lot is not regarded as a prophet in Christianity. He was just Abraham's nephew.
I am a fellow Muslim. The only answer they give is that there was no men around so, they had to do so to procreate. But why they get their father drunk and deceitfully rape the pure man is not mentioned (estagfirullah).
ESTAGFIRULLAH ,ESTAGFIRULLAH ,ESTAGFIRULLAH
I cannot find words to describe the matter.
