We have the highest number of cases in the world and our curve isn’t even close to flattening because a lot of people don’t think the virus is real and is a Democratic hoax. Wearing masks is considered a “violation of rights”, and businesses are opening up all at once instead of being phased and completely shut down for a while.
Furthermore the president is threatening to cut funding from schools that don’t reopen. He uses other countries as an example of good school reopenings, but fails to note some of those countries have managed the virus well whereas the US has cases rising higher and higher because of the stupidity & selfishness of Americans.
I think I answered my own question.

You did answer your own question. Because yes the virus is being handled poorly in your country, and it's because nobody cares. Selfishness and stupidity seem to have taken over.
Take a look north of the border at the caseload in Canada. Canada has 10% of your population, but just over 3% of your total Covid cases. The fatality rate in Canada is also half (per million) than it is in the US. Are Canadians that much tougher than Americans?
Canadians are tough, but not that tough, so it must be something else.
The United States is NOT 'handling the virus poorly.'
The W.H.O. initially recommended that this pandemic be handled using the models established during the H1N1 pandemic, (a.k.a. 'swine flu'), which killed 13,000 Americans, mostly elderly. They recommended that the virus be allowed to spread among the healthy while protecting the 'most vulnerable,' allowing 'herd immunity' to form. This was the national policy of U.K. nations, for example, which had to reverse course and follow the U.S. lead after recognizing the lethality of this virus, (U.K. is experiencing a nearly 16% mortality rate).
The United States was unprepared because of the W.H.O. approach and lack of medical infrastructure, (which is why our President temporarily stopped their funding to let the entire world know). The Obama administration decided not to pursue this new medical infrastructure because the expense might have threatened 'Obama Care' and the people dying were older Americans anyway.
Do you recall any 'stay at home' orders, lockdowns, or social distancing requirements?
No.
President Trump had to create an entirely new medical infrastructure 'on the fly' from virtually scratch with help from his private industry colleagues, which is what is keeping us at a 4.5% mortality rate. We have also tested more people than any other nation while even beginning to reopen the dynamic economy which Trump's policies had created for us before the virus hit.
China is experiencing the worst economic year in more than seven decades, which was already true BEFORE the epidemic hit. Their government oppression and total lockdowns offer them little hope of recovery, so they will have no choice but to face this same demon at some point as well if they wish to rebuild their economy. The same goes for every other nation on earth currently trying to 'wait it out' while their economies suffer and remain dependent on U.S. strength and leadership as each new 'wave' arrives, (presuming we don't have new viruses arriving from China also in the interim, for which we are now prepared, thanks to the actions of our President).
That is the reality of the situation. The rest is fake news, lies, spin and Press nonsense driven by their insane hatred for their own President, the rule of law, and longstanding American traditions.
We have the highest number of REPORTED cases because we report every suspected case. Outside of UNIVERSAL testing, there is no way to know the actual numbers. Even the "experts" that claim it is the worst epidemic in history admit that MOST cases are mil enough that the person doesn't know they have it. In fact, they use that to justify lockdowns.
I care, and I'm livid. It's the fault of Donald Trump and idiotic governors, primary in the South and Southwest, and those who support them.
The US economy is a wreck and over 100,000 lives have been lost early.
How could anyone be satisfied with this, other than the Moron in Chief? Other countries are faring so much better; although their lockdowns were worse, the overall price they pay is lower.
Yes, and I don't think you fully answered your own question.
You omitted the lack of leadership, the mass misunderstanding of the US Constitution, and the limitations of power the Whitehouse. When the nation's leader doesn't have a clue and he silences (or fires) the ones that do, we all suffer. It isn't that people don't care, it is the campaign of misinformation and efforts to divide the nation instead of unite us.
We have a higher population than other countries for one thing.
We also have a higher rate of false reporting
I completely agree with "Spock (rhp)"
The various state regimes have to keep up with their neighbors. If one state "opens up" its neighbors have to do the same.
America is a nation in which the rights of the individual, including to be a complete fool, are more important than the desires of the collective. so, given that, how could the virus have been handled "Better"? should we eschew individual rights? Assert that the federal government is superior to the states and try to impose behavior from the top, only to be struck down by the Supreme Court? The nature of an open society is that such things happen whether we wish them to or not ... would you close up even more than we already have just to contain the virus? Would you double taxes on those who do not lose their jobs when their employer is forced to close so that everyone else can stay home to avoid the virus? Make real proposals that are actually legal in America .. or be thought a leftist troll
I've posted links here several times about the countries with the highest number of cases per capita. We are not at the top, nor are we 2nd or 3rd on the list.
Per capita - a country with a larger population will have more cases than a country with a much smaller population
