If you like black Liquorice, you'll probably like it cold or luke warm. I've thrown a bottle in the freezer before and we got to drinking it, it was really good. It feels good going down, and I think the chilled aspect of it brings out a little more flavor but dulls the burn.
Ew, I'd just make the Jager cold, don't add ice to it. Stick it in the freezer for a nice long time so it's frosty cold, and return to the freezer after pouring. Ice water for chasing is actually great though, imo. Jager has such a strong taste that to me mixing it is not the way to go. It never improves with other drinks, but chasing it with cold water alone helps bring out the most pleasant flavors in it while soothing the throat from the harshest flavors.
