Is it wrong to say “you will go to hell for this”?
For me it’s like executing a suspect without a trial… I always thought that we supposed to have our deeds weighted after we die to determine where we going?
It is wrong in that you are placing yourself in the role of God. There is not a person alive with the authority to pass this judgment. You CAN tell someone they are messing up, and why. But, as always, lead by example first.
Perhaps a better way of witnessing to people is to share Jesus with them. Tell them how He changed your life and if they are interested in learning more, share the Gospels with them. Jesus did not go about telling people, "You will go to hell for this." He helped them and then told them to stop sinning. He told them about the Kingdom of God and how they could get there--repent, do the will of the Father; become like little children; be born again; keep His commandments. etc.
Share your faith with people, don't hit them over the head with it. Do it always in love. In my church's current Bible Study guide one of the topics dealt with witnessing and a very good point was raised. "How could we, as a church, better reflect the love and kindness that must go along with our witness? How can you, either as a class or as an individual, help your local church better manifest the love of God? It's frightening to think of how many people who, attracted to our message, have never accepted it because of the lack of kindness, grace, and love expressed by the church. We can and must do better" (Jesus and the Johannine Letters).
6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
The only thing anyone will go to hell for is there sin, in lieu of rejecting Christ to save them. You want to work the works of God? Here is the WORK of God... believe in the One Whom He sent to die for you.
The only way into heaven is by believing in the beautiful message of Lord Jesus Christ. If you reject it then God is the only judge. Please pray a sincere prayer with all your heart admitting to Jesus you are a sinner. Have full faith that His blood pays off all your sins and accept His gift of everlasting life. I pray that God is kind to you. Amen.
If it is true, who can it be wrong. Jesus didn't stop to think is this going to offend someone or not. He told the truth, and told us that people WILL be offended. It's all part of the Christian life. Like it or not.
Yes. Especially if you say this to an atheist. A girl I once knew used to say this to me all the time and it made her look ridiculous. It was like she was trying to brainwash me into her faith.
Well I don't tell people they will go to hell, I tell them they will be "punished." My friend is dating a married man and I told her God would punish her. She is an atheist and doesn't believe in God but when He punishes her for her actions, she will recognize that it is true.
Gal 2:16 And yet we Jewish Christians know that we become right with God, not by doing what the law commands, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be accepted by God because of our faith in Christ--and not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be saved by obeying the law."

Actually, it is. I am guilty many times of doing it, but I catch myself now and usually don't.
All it is is another way of telling someone to go to hell. We should not do that either, but we are human and are often reactionary.
