god i wish there were public universities in canada. i think that price is fair, certainly lower than the rest of the world, but fight it anyway, public school should be free.
*points to tuition fees at public universities in the US*
Don't they have a system in the UK where graduates don't have to start paying back their loans until they get a good job anyway? I mean, really, what's the risk involved here that everyone is so worried about?
In the US, you have to start repayment of student loans 6 months after you leave higher education, job or not. If you can't pay, and you took out private loans, you're basically screwed for life.
I'm not saying it's right - in my opinion, governments should take care of both the health care and education of everyone, and that includes the US government. I'm just saying that what the UK has now is not the worst possible situation.
No idea. Not living in the UK. But all other countries pay for tertiary education, why not Britain? If the price is reasonable is also debatable, depends on the average income in the UK. The course and the contents of said course.
It only worthies for Oxford and Cambridge. If you look at the evaluation conducted by Global academic Organization, British Universities are in bottom with levels about High School. The top rank Univeristiies are found in U.S., China, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
I think it's not so much a matter of right or not, it's what does it cost to provide the service. It's expensive to provide education. You have salaries, administration, physical plants - materials - the money has to come from somewhere. I have no idea whether it costs the government 9K or more than that or less than that - but I think cost is cost. It's not like some old grouchy troll is amassing gold somewhere and chuckling, I don't think -
how you any idea how much is actually costs to run a uni?
is it right that the tax payers have to foot the bill?
at the moment the uni DOES get the money, but it doesn't come from the students, the tax payers are subsidising it
and lets face it, many of the so-called degrees are just Mickey Mouse degrees anyway... maybe if the students have to pay for their own tuition they wouldn't choose the soft, easy options but would get vocational degrees or one with a modicum of use!
