In New Jersey it is illegal to slurp your soup and it was designed to promote table manners. Of course this law isn’t enforced, but it just comes to show that there can be bad rules which prohibit things that aren’t truly wrong, like slurping soup.

The words "bad" and "wrong" are subjective and mean different things to different people. In American culture, for example, slurping soup is rude behavior and could be judged by some people as "wrong" and needing to be legislated. In some Asian cultures, slurping soup is a compliment that the food is good. Laws tend to reflect the majority opinion at the time they were passed. They may become passé at some point, but they reflect something about the culture at that time.
They exist so you can break them. People like to break the law and feel some kind of thrill by doing it. So slurp away NJ!
