Scripture tells us that it wasn’t.
Luke 22:39-42
39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Jesus is not appealing to be spared from death. Even the thought of avoiding a sacrificial death, once suggested by Peter, is repugnant to him. Rather, he is in agony because he fears that the way he will soon die—as a despicable criminal—will bring reproach upon his Father’s name. He now senses that in a few hours he is going to be impaled upon a stake as the worst kind of person—a blasphemer against God! This is what sorely troubles him.
Jesus keenly feels severe pains because of the reproach that his death as a criminal will bring on his Father’s name. Why, to be charged as a blasphemer—one who curses God—is almost too much to bear!
Nevertheless, Jesus continues to pray: “Not what I want, but what you want.” Jesus obediently submits his will to God’s. At this, an angel from heaven appears and strengthens him with some encouraging words. Likely, the angel tells Jesus that he has his Father’s smile of approval.
Yet, what a weight is on Jesus’ shoulders! His own eternal life and that of the whole human race hangs in the balance. The emotional stress is enormous.
You actually have some pretty good views in here on this issue. Technically though, one must remember that Jesus is fully human which requires an effort to conform to God's will. Jesus did this perfectly and becomes our teacher in so doing. Human nature needs to be brought into subjection to God and Jesus shows us how to do it since scripture does show us that His will is always in perfect harmony with His Father in all things. In other words, Luke 22:29-42 actually proves this ("...but yours be done"). Temptation in itself is never consent. Jesus is like us in all things except sin.
Yes Jesus is God but Jesus is not the Father, this is the complexity of the trinity. The Son is not the Father and the Father is not the Son but both are God and there is only one God. People have been agonising over the often contradictory statements contained in the bible, the trinity is the result of hundreds of years of trying to understand how God revealed himself as eternal unseeable, unapproachable Father and God with us (Emmanuel, God in the flesh, who humbled himself unto death) and personal Spirit dwelling within us. The trinity is a statement of faith not a profession of understanding.
How would a two dimenaional pac man comprehend a cube consisting of four squares each of the four sides of the squares touch four other squares, the pac man will always have two squares left over and some of the squares won't touch the other squares, the pac man just couldn't get his 2Dimensional head around a cube no matter how much he tried to understand it, he would just have to choose between taking it on faith or rejecting the cube as an impossible shape and denying its existence. I think the same is true of trinity, you either accept it on faith or reject it but understanding it is out of the question.
The scripture makes it clear that Jesus cannot BE God...He is the son.
In saying this, Jesus was not disagreeing with his father, but rather he was saying that he was subservient to his father and was fully prepared to do his father's will...He complied so he agreed...to be a sacrifice...
(John 7:18) He that speaks of his own originality is seeking his own glory; but he that seeks the glory of him that sent him, this one is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
(John 8:54) Jesus answered: “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifies me, he who YOU say is YOUR God;
(1 Peter 1:20) True, he was foreknown before the founding of the world, but he was made manifest at the end of the times for the sake of YOU
This fits with Proverbs 8; 22-31
Jehovah created Jesus as the very first pof creation...before even the world...
Jesus was created...Jehovah has always existed.
(Colossians 1:15) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation;
" firstborn" IS to be created...it can only apply to Jesus.
And this is not to bhe confused with being the firstborn of Mary..which he also was.
How would YOU think, feel and pray at the prospect of being deserted by friends, abused and then climbing a hill to be crucified. Also he faced 6 different trials through the night.
He was mocked, stripped naked, flogged in such a way that his skin and flesh was shredded, then on bleeding shoulders he had to carry the cross-member of the cross, but he fell and Simon from Cyrene was commandeered to carry it.
By the way, it is now believed by research, that Jesus was crucified with his hands facing the wood, and that the nails went through the wrist. The legs were bent at 45% - his joints were strained and became dislocated because of the inhuman position and weight of the body, plus the agonising movement entailed in breathing - Also the heart became more and more stressed -beating rapidly.
Jesus was human, who would not wish to escape such horror? And he could have escaped - but he managed to utter -"Not my (human-flesh) will, but Thine be done!"
He suffered all this terrible punishment to free us from eternal suffering, if we accept him. We refuse and deny Him to our eternal Damnation.
The will of Christ is to do the will of the Father, it was always the teaching of Christ.
How could Christ will be separate from the will of God if Christ was God?
This is not really complicated if you truly knew who Jesus is and why he came and what he suffered and why he suffered..
This IS the Gospel.
MAN sinned and separated himself from righteous God.
This separation from God who created and sustains our life... is death.
Now do you see your need for God?
Do you see your need for a Savior?
So MAN sinned and man is separated from righteous God..
God did not sin.. God is not under the law... God is not going to overcome temptation, sin and death,,, HE isn't under the law.
SO what then?
The Word ? The word that is God became flesh... FLESH... Why flesh?
MAN is under the MAN sinned....
The Word became flesh, a MAN UNDER THE LAW,
That through his righteousness, Jesus overcame temptation, sin and death... AS A MAN UNDER THE LAW... that through his righteousness, atonement and resurrection.. you can be made new... and righteously joined to God... which is what?
Eternal Life.... Who is your Savior? God alone is your Savior.. there is no Savior besides God...
Who saved you? How are you saved? Jesus is your Savior... there is no other.
Jesus became flesh and man subject to all the being a man entails, he suffered to be a man... for your salvation... he was tempted as a man. He learned as a man... he was indeed a man...Jesus was a man,, its not against the trinity to say this.. this is the trinity.. and it is the Gospel.
Muslims and JWs keep thinking if we can only see that Christ is a man then somehow this proves the trinity wrong... NO IT DOESNT... You simply need to realize what Jesus came to do and what he acomplished on the cross and you can come to know who Jesus is... through God's revelation.. through the spirit... through being born again,.

If we are seeking God, shouldn't it be the truth, not myths or false statements about him that will lead us to Him?
Lone is pointing to a statement made by Jesus showing that the doctrine of the Trinity fails to lead us to God and more importantly the truth about Him and His Son. We get to know more about their relationship from that statement. We see a Son that had an issue that was painful to him, but was willing to accept the need to follow through with his Father's will about that issue. That shows the love he had for his Father, and that he was not a part of a Trinity of gods.
First of all, only the Father is God. As 1 Cor. 8:6 says: "But we know that there is only one God, the Father, who created everything, and we live for him." And second of all, Jesus' remark at Luke 22:42 shows that God's will has priority over that of Jesus', whose will was NOT the same as his Father's. Obviously, Jesus and God are two entirely different persons.
If Jesus' will were the same as his Father's, he would have said: "...take this cup from me, yet not ONLY my will, but OURS be done."
Hi Lone, as always, good to see you.
This is because Jesus Christ is not God. Jehovah God has always been, Jesus Christ had a beginning. The Bible says he was created by God. They can't be the same then can they. Very simple concept but so many are blinded by Satan. Very sad.
Hi, LD. You've posted some really good questions of logic lately.
@SKILF - Completely agree with you. It IS vital that we seek God. But what could be more important to seeking God than to learn about his TRUE nature.
