Herakles is a very old Greek hero/god. Therefore, it has a Greek name, which means 'glory of Hera'. Since he is basically Superman and has lots of interesting adventures, other people starting to tell his stories.
His stories arrived to Rome via the Etruscan (who called him Heracle or Hercle), there he became known as Hercules, a name which is proven popular even today.
As such, Hercle and Hercules don't mean anything in Etruscan or Latin (and Etruscan is still undeciphered anyway).
Juno is not Hera, she's a Roman goddess the Romans thought was the most similar to Hera, but saying one name is the translation of the other is like saying that Mussolini and Hitler were the same person. In Latin, 'glory' is 'gloria'.
Heracles is the Greek name for the hero. Hercules is the name adopted by the Romans and Etruscans. it does not translate because the root of the name is in Greek.
The profusion of Greek deities was slowly assimiliated into Roman culture from around 2nd century BCE, but the Romans also drew on the belief system of the Etruscans, a highly cultured and indigenous people of Central Italy who was finally overthrown at the sacking of Veii in 396 BCE.
Herakles is in Greek, and Hercules is in Latin !!!
I am sure that you are not so well informed.
You really want me to translate Latin word ' Hercules ' into Latin or Etruscan ...... it is beyond my capability.
You are really confused about Greek and Roman mythology
Is the Brittannica wrong in stating that the word ' Hercules ' is Latin ???
It is more rewarding that you do it yourself.
Please do not confuse the answerers ..... we are as human as you !
