I have to take a week off of running because a stress fracture could be starting in my foot. It's been four days, and I'm already going stir crazy. I did yoga the past two days, but I was just wondering:
1. will missing a week of running slow down my metabolism?
2. will I lose muscle over the course of this week?
thank you for your time.

I always heard it takes 10 days of inactivity to have any effect on muscle. And when you've been exercising hard for a long time, your metabolism stays ramped up. I remember exercising really hard once to lose about 20 pounds - once I had lost it I cut way back on exercise, but still lost another 5 pounds just due to metabolism staying hi! Don't worry, you'll be just fine. :)
You'll be fine if not better than you are now. I caught the flu three weeks before a marathon and thought I was going to be in trouble. But the rest actually allowed an injury to heal and I was better off than if I'd kept pushing myself.
no your metabolism will not slow down.. but the amount of calories u are burning will slow down.
do not take in as many carbs, as u do not need as mucn energy
and no u will not lose muscle..... and muscle is more from weight training..
and u wil not lose stamina either.. its a good break for u.. a rest
One week should not make a significant difference. If you can fit in some other cardio exercise that keeps you off your legs such as swimming, everything should work out fine.
You will be okay.. not running for a week will not make you loose any muscle. Just dont eat any extra carbs and you'll be alright.
the effect of one week's rest on your running is negligible unless you have the race of your life coming up in 3 days. No Effect
One week will not make much difference. You can do other exercises that will help you retain your fitness that do not involve your foot. Sit-ups, push-ups, isometrics.
what i would do:
lay on my bed, or florr or something flat, and lift my legs up past my head and keep them there for as long as i could stand.
it bulids muscle, or in your case, keep your muscle strenght right where it should be =]
yah you'll be okey just try to stay in fit without moving a lot
try swimming or cycling
