Hi, my name is jake and I’m going into my junior year of high school. Recently I have been stressing because I have no idea, not even a slimmer of shine on what I want to do when I go to college. I know I want to go to college, even if it means debt. I average a 3.5 gpa and have a couple hundred community service hours. But my real problem is I have such an entrepreneurship spirit, so when I get out of college I am going to have to start my own business, opposed to working for someone, unless there is an amazing opportunity. I fell that I’m going to minor in business. MY REAL QUESTIONS IS: what should I consider majoring in? What is going to “be big” in the next few years? I graduate 2020, so when I go to college I want to go into it know what I want to do. Any ideas would be amazing! Thanks guys!

Why would you only minor in business if you want to own your own business? A huge pitfall for many starry-eyed novice business owners is that they are incapable of understanding the legal and financial implications that come along with businesses. Do you really want to trust someone else to do ALL of that for you? Also, many entrepreneurs start out like you. They want to boss people around and not be bossed around. They want to start a business... but in what? Something that will make lots of money of course! But as a business major myself (accounting), I can assure you that having no passion for the product or service your are providing is also another large pitfall.
So if you want to start a successful business that does not fail like 90% of all business (50% fail within 4 to 5 years), make sure you have an unending passion for whatever you are endorsing. If it's something technical like "I want to build something myself and then sell it," then fine, you don't have to MAJOR in business, you might as well go into engineering. But it doesn't sound like that's your case, you just want to boss people around and make hella cash. What's going to "be big," you ask? Technology, of course. That's probably the most prominent area of growth in this day and age. Also, there are many legal and financial implications with Trump in charge. It's likely that after Trump leaves office, another overhaul may take place. Keeping up with these changes is not easy, and it's even worse if you don't understand any of it.
I would suggest an accounting major, because it's the language of all business. Minor in the field that you are interested in providing a good or service for. Maybe you can even double major or double minor. Maybe have a concentration in something. It's up to you, really.
But perhaps you want to reevaluate your desire for entrepreneurship. Since you are young and adolescent, take a look at yourself as a character separate from your own ego. Take a good long look at yourself. Why do you want to go into entrepreneurship? The "spirit of entrepreneurship" may not be what you think it is. Do you want to grow something that is part of something larger than yourself... or do you just hate being bossed around? Think about it, Jake.
Oh and one last thing... entrepreneurs work like dogs. There is no such thing as 9 to 5 for them. Otherwise, they're clearly doing it wrong.
If you know what business you'll be starting, then find classes that will help you with this. Otherwise I hear the hot areas are accounting, engineering & computers. I went for a computer science degree myself.
Stop stressing. Don't worry about what is going to be big. Even the experts can only make educated guesses. If you aren't good at something, you won't be successful even if it is "big." You can do your own research by googling phrases like "growth sectors" "where careers will be in 10 years," and the like.
Here's the thing, if you are unwilling or unable to work for someone else, it really doesn't matter that much. You will have to figure out what you can make or produce or provide based on your own skills, talents, and interests. While you probably know of people who are very successful writing an app or other technology, a surprising number of people make millions on crazy things from a video camera you can attach to your head (GoPro), shoes modeled out of resin (Crocs), natural beauty products (Burt's Bees), premium ice cream with crazy flavors and names (Ben & Jerry's), expensive shoes that provide shoes to charity (Tom's), non-taxi rides (Uber), and lots of gizmos and gadgets that you see on Shark Tank.
Being a successful "entrepreneur" requires a unique combination of insight, creativity, passions, hard work, business skills, and luck.
First, forget about what will be big in the next few years - no one really can say with certainty! You are approaching this all wrong (in my opinion).
Work is going to take up 8 hours a day - that's HALF of your waking hours. You want to think about what makes you HAPPY. Cause it isn't easy getting up every day, knowing that you have to spend your time doing a job you don't like. Too many people live like this, and that probably explains why there are something like 2 million people in the U.S. on anti-depressants - just trying to zone out of their life. That's sad..
One way to figure out what makes you happy, is to think about your day dreams. For example, if you day dream about being an astronaut, well then, perhaps something in aviation or science would be good.. You have already said you would like to have your own business.. so that's a start - what kind of business? Little story - there was a guy in our area who liked to shoe horses.. it seems crazy - who can make a living these days from doing that?! Well, he decided that that was what he was good at, and that was what he wanted to do.. and now, he's got more work at race tracks than he can actually do! Follow your heart and do what you think would be fun and interesting - that way you will be happy in life.
Another thing to keep in mind, the average person changes careers 6 times in their lifetime.. you start out running a corner store, then see a job opening next door at a library, next thing you are doing is managing the library. You meet someone who needs a manager of their plant nursery - that's how it goes for most people. So, never stress about 'what can I do the rest of my life?!!" - just think about what you want to do NOW.. one thing will lead to another and you can't plan for that.
If you want to have a business of your own, take business courses at college.
You want your own business. Major/ double major or minor in Entrepreneurship. It will teach you how to run your own business. As oppose to a business major that will be more for a corporate job.
Pair that with what you want your business in. What are you interested in, academically good at.
Start researching trends yourself. Start reading the newspaper, Newsweek, The Wall steeet Journal, Forbes

As to what you should major in when you go to college, you should visit a couple of websites that offer career aptitude tests to see if there is something you're suited for that you haven't thought of.
You can always change your mind about your major after a year or two of college, anyway. Many people do.
